Hi Matthias,

Despite Hans' suggestion of putting \relax in front of [, in my 
installation of ConTeXt this works well:
\starttext
\startformula
0 =[\partial,B] =0.
\stopformula


Make sure there is no funny invisible characters in front of the 
square brackets.
