Hi everyone!
I'm Olaf and I'd like to be working on this year's Google Summer of Code
project in pandoc, which, as I understand it so far, is about making
figures a first class citizen in the application. I'm a second year
computer science student based in Germany. I've worked as a software
engineering intern for about six months in total in Java and C#, and I've
had some experience with Haskell in my classes. I wouldn't say I'm a
regular pandoc user, but I remember situations where it saved me a lot of
pain, so I'm quite fond of the tool and excited about contributing.
What would be a good way for me to start working towards a proposal? My
plan for now is to set up the build process and try submitting a PR for a
good-first-issue. Is there anything else I could do right now?
Best,
Olaf
PS: I'm still trying to get to grips with google groups, so apologies if I
take a while to reply in the beginning.

Thank you for your interest in the project, it's nice to hear that
pandoc has served you well in the past!
I took your mail as motivation to write an issue for the project:
<https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/issues/7184>. I hope it answers most of
your questions; let us know in case it doesn't, and maybe also if it
does.
Cheers,
Albert

Hi Albert,
Thank you, that was really useful! I'll start poking around the code and
I'll reach out again once I have an idea for a proposal or further
questions.
What's the best place for me to ask questions? Should I comment on the GSoC
issue or start a new thread in the group or…
