Should I conclude that no one is using pandoc's native note functionality with beamer?

I don't normally add notes to my presentations (I keep them in a separate file that I just print out), but am thinking about it, so I'm wondering how people implement this (if at all) in beamer presentations.

It looks to me like Adobe Reader doesn't have a real presentation mode (nor does Apple Preview.app), where the speaker sees one thing on their screen and the audience another on theirs. Instead there are other apps that handle this. Do any work with pandoc's notes functionality in beamer, so that the speaker can see the notes, but the audience can't?

I have also discovered that some apps work using beamer's "second screen" option where the pdf is generated as a "double-wide" file that the app splits to show to each audience. In this case, the notes go on the second screen (easily enough done in pandoc with  `-V beameroption='show notes on second screen'`). In this case though some markdown features don't seem to work for me. For example, the list in the User Guide's example doesn't show up at all.

I've been playing with this using Présentation on my Mac, which is fine with the second screen (or the pdfcomment package), but not pandoc's default notes.

Thanks for any suggestions.
