The order of lot and lof in the default latex template

The order of lot and lof in the default latex template

Now lot (list of tables) locates before lof (list of figures) in the default latex template. But as far as I know, the reverse order is expected in most thesis in my country. So is it a good idea to support customizing the order in the default template?

You can always use a custom template.  I think adding variables
to customize the order in the default template is too much
complexity, given the ease of using a custom template.

If lof should come before lot in MOST situations, I'd consider
changing the default.

Yeah, lof comes first in my country.

Leslie Lamport's "LaTeX" has LOT first, LOF second. The Memoir Class user
guide has LOF first LOT second. Both good authority :-).

FWIW The Chicago Manual of Style and the New Hart's rules (OUP house style) 
place illustrations before tables. In New Hart's 2014  §1.2.1 the list of 
front-matter elements has: 
...
contents
lists of illustrations, figures, and maps
list of tables
...

In the Chicago 16th ed, 2010, §1.38 the text only says "In books containing 
various kinds of illustrations, the list may be divided into sections 
headed, for examples, Figures, Tables (see fig 1.6) or Plates, Drawings, 
Maps." But the fig. 1.6 does show figure before tables.
