Using an environment named `thebibliography` is too confusing: this should be reserved for documents written to make use of latex’s bib processing mechanism (which we don’t when using pandoc-citeproc). On the contrary, a more uncommon name such as `pandoc-references` or `csl-references` might be preferable, and we’d need to come up with our own syntax anyway.
