I'm using Zettlr to export an .md file to a .pdf and it's not working. I
get this message:

Export failed
An error occurred on export: pandoc
"C:\Users\Daisy\AppData\Local\Temp\export.tmp" -f markdown -t latex --
template="C:\Users\Daisy\AppData\Local\Temp\template.latex" $citeproc$
--pdf-engine=xelatex --mathjax -o
"C:\Users\Daisy\AppData\Local\Temp\file_name.pdf"

pandoc: $citeproc$: openBinaryFile: does not exist (No such file or
directory)

(sorry for the line breaks, I'm just trying to copy what I see since it's
not copy/paste-able.)

What does this mean? What do I need to do?

I've already spent hours reading documentation and searching, but I'm
probably missing something simple.

Environment variables? My "path" is set to find the pandoc executable by
default, should be ok.
Citeproc looks like it's for citations, but I get the same error for other
files with no citations.
My Zettlr is set to find my json library (citations).

Obviously I'm clueless, but willing to learn!
Thanks.

Hi,

looks like your pandoc and Zettlr versions don't fit, you'll probably
have to upgrade one or the other.

Since this is really a Zettlr issue, it would be best to bring it to the
Zettlr forum. You'll get better help from there:
https://forum.zettlr.com

Cheers,
Albert

Hi,
The [release blog post for v1.8.2] contains the following information:

> The default Pandoc command now targets Pandoc 2.11 and above. *In order
to use the new command, make sure to "reset" it once, or (if it contains
customisations) replace $citeproc$ with --citeproc --bibliography
"$bibliography$" $cslstyle$.* However, you can retain compatibility with
older versions by replacing the new part --citeproc with --filter
pandoc-citeproc. The new $bibliography$ variable will be replaced
with /path/to/your/library.json. Furthermore, the $cslstyle$-variable will
be replaced with --csl /path/to/your/style.json, if applicable.

Pre-1.8.2, the command that Zettlr used was:
pandoc "$infile$" -f markdown $outflag$ $tpl$ $toc$ $tocdepth$ $citeproc$
$standalone$ --pdf-engine=xelatex --mathjax -o "$outfile$"

With 1.8.2, the command that Zettlr uses is:
pandoc "$infile$" -f markdown $outflag$ $tpl$ $toc$ $tocdepth$ --citeproc
--bibliography "$bibliography$" $cslstyle$ $standalone$
--pdf-engine=xelatex --mathjax -o "$outfile$"

Regards,
Pranesh

Okay it does sound like a Zettlr problem. I didn't realize it was a syntax
problem (I thought I had a bad configuration for the pandoc side).
Despite my having an updated version of Zettlr, it still seems like it's
doing the old version $citeproc$... so I will investigate with Zettlr !

Anyway, Thank you for your trained eyes! :)
