Certain formulas not recognized in inline math environment (MarkDown)

Hi,

if a formula ends on a equal sign, Pandoc 1.15.1.1 fails to recognize the
formula, i.e.

    % echo '$p(j) = $'|pandoc -f markdown -t html --gladtex
    <p>$p(j) = $</p>

Is this bug known?

Not a bug.  See
http://pandoc.org/README.html#extension-tex_math_dollars
"the closing $ must have a non-space character immediately
to its left, and must not be followed immediately by a
digit."
