I'm thinking about this: in printed books, the usually aren't horizontal 
rules like the ones the latex writer uses.

I usually see a centered 
[asterism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterism_(typography)) or just 
three asterisks.

Have you thought about this?
