I tried compiling pandoc on an M1 macbook air with ghc 8.10.5,
which now supports apple silicon via llvm.

I ran benchmarks on both that machine and an intel macbook pro
with 2.3 GHz 8-core i9. Both machines have 16 GB memory.

Here are some representative comparisons:

epub3 writer: 10 ms on intel, 7.7 ms on m1
html5 writer: 1.8 ms on intel, 1.5 ms on m1
markdown writer: 4.6 ms on intel, 3.4 ms on m1
docx writer; 28 ms on intel, 23 ms on m1
latex reader: 17 ms on intel, 14 ms on m1
docx reader: 35 ms on intel, 28 ms on m1

That's good news! Pandoc has been one of three apps keeping my iterm2/homebrew on X86/Rosetta2.

(The other two are zim wiki python dependencies and the Sublime Text Mediawiker plugin.)
