IIUC, this means:

1. versions before 1.12 had integrated citeproc support (don’t know how exaclty).
2. versions beginning with 1.12 rely on an external library.
2a) first that was pandoc-citeproc
2b) now citeproc is used...

John will know the details, but that is how I’d understand this.

Dear All,

I am reading this : https://github.com/jgm/pandoc-citeproc

It says :

Note: This package is no longer maintained. Pandoc now uses the citeproc<https://github.com/jgm/citeproc> library, and no external filter is needed.

This package provides a library and executable to facilitate the use of citeproc with pandoc 1.12 and greater. (Earlier versions of pandoc have integrated citeproc support.)

What I do not understand is :

Should not the LATER versions of pandoc have integrated citeproc support ? How can the  NEW citeproc library be integrated into the EARLIER versions of pandoc?

Please clarify.
