I've been thinking about the fact that pandoc already embedded lua interpreter. How about embedding Python interpreter (and possibly including pandocfilters and panflute)? This might bloated the size of pandoc a bit, and I can't find a number on the size, but there are projects aimming at using Python on emdding systems.
