[-- Attachment #1.1: Type: text/plain, Size: 1228 bytes --]

Hello,

I am using this wonderful pandoc for converting articles in html in the
ePub simple publications. Often I face issue when ePub reader is not able
to display media (jpg) included in the .epub file, if the file name
contains additional string as fetch from web.

Here is the example:

name in html: sen_crop.jpg?itok=GpTzhRV5
name in generated ePub: file0.jpg?itok=GpTzhRV5

Only when I rename it manually to file0.jpg it is visible in the
problematic ePub readers.
I wonder if there is any way to define how to rename the media files, to
option to strip part after ? in image url?

Thank you for your kind help

Are you using the most up-to-date version of pandoc
(1.15.0.4)? Some issues in this area have been fixed
recently.

John

I am on Debian Jessie and last version here is 1.12.4.2.
I would be happy to upgrade, but it is mostly difficult for Debian.
If you have or anybody else a suggestion I would appreciate it very much

You could use cabal to install the latest package into a non-system,
separate location, ${HOME}/.cabal/:

cabal update
cabal install cabal-install
export PATH=${HOME}/.cabal/bin:${PATH}
cabal install pandoc pandoc-citeproc

(I hope I didn’t miss an important step… Oh, yes: you need to find out
which Debian package has the cabal utility. Maybe it is named ghc-platform,
or cabal-install…)

Kurt,

this is very interesting I had no idea about cabal. This is very good to
know.
Thanks!

use cabal instead. It is haskell's own pacakge manager - similiar to how
debian has aptitude and apt.
It is quite simple, it takes care of the dependencies for you, and you
can run the most recent versions of pandoc.
Just follow Kurt's instructions.

BTW, you said your image file had filenames like:
>
> name in html: sen_crop.jpg?itok=GpTzhRV5
> name in generated ePub: file0.jpg?itok=GpTzhRV5
Why do they have "?itok=GpTzhRV5" following the image extension? Is
there any reason or necessity for that?

If I were you I'd try to get rid of them. Most likely the file will then
display fine on both html and epub. Ending the filename with anything
but the extension is asking for trouble when converting between
markups/formats.

Good luck.
