yes, works fine for me. I think I'm still using the pdflatex from 
MacTex-2013:
$ pdflatex -v
pdfTeX 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013)

@Ricardo, does pdflatex work on its own? It should: 
https://tug.org/mactex/yosemite.html
