yes, works fine for me. I think I'm still using the pdfla= tex from MacTex-2013:
$ pdflatex -v
pdfTeX 3.14159= 26-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013)

@Ricardo, does pdfl= atex work on its own? It should: https://tug.org/mactex/yosemite.html
