pandoc refusing to convert citation keys with underscores

Hey everyone,

my disk recently died on me, so had to do a re-install. After using pandoc 
for years, for the first time in the command line pandoc will not convert 
bibtex citation keys with underscores (e.g. @climate_watch_historical_2018) 
into citations. I'm converting from .md to .docx.

It exits with the following message:

unexpected '_'
expecting white space

I have also a new version of Zettlr that has an integrated port of pandoc, 
and there underscores works as expected.

What should I do (I can not not use underscores as a lot of my writing uses 
such citation keys).

Did a reinstall and now works as expected. Apologies for the unnecessary 
noise over here.
