ODT table and figure enumeration in captions

Hi,

I am using a small toolchain to generate ODT's from docbook. As this is 
technical documentation I would like to have enumerated tables and figures, 
which would then be added to respective indexes.

Would it be fine for me to contribute support for this?
I'm rather asking at a conceptual level whether this is a wanted feature. 
Also note that this would change the output for existing users, all table 
captions would now be "Table X: <caption>" instead of just "<caption>".

Please advise.
