Leftmarks not showing section title content

Dear people,

i use pandoc to generate PDF from MD with a (minimally adapted) latex 
template.
    Pandoc-Version: 1.19.2.4~dfsg-1build4
on linuxmint

This setup worked as expected until the last month (or so).

Now, *leftmark* is not displaying a current section name anymore - its only 
rendering the title of the TOC-Page on every page of the PDF. 
When i'm displaying *thesection* in this area, its rendering the correct 
section number value.

*pandoc command*:
pandoc -V --toc-depth=3 --number-sections --standalone --data-dir=./ --template=template/template_modul.latex

*Template excerpt*:

Die Kronenarchitektur wird aufgebaut, der Baum fruchtet kaum oder gar
