Whatever the answer generally, I have commented, https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/issues/2704#issuecomment-844498102, on the closed issue [Does .allowframebreaks conflict with \hypertarget? #2704](https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/issues/2704). This identifies a problem with ` \leavevmode\vadjust pre{}` in latex/pdf output when citations are processed.
