Centering Images/Image Size, converting from .md (Obsidian) to PDF (via LaTeX)

I'm trying to use Pandoc to convert my markdown files created using 
Obsidian.md  to PDF files with a LaTeX template. The text works fine, but 
I'm having trouble with images, specifically image sizes and positions. 

When I use ![Artist Photo](absolute/path/to/image) Pandoc and LaTeX render 
the image, but it's half off the screen and so big as to take up a whole 
page.

How do I limit the image size to e.g. its original size? And make it so 
there's text on the page too?

 Plus if possible would it be possible to link an image to a specific 
paragraph or line, so I can determine where the image goes?

Thanks but if I include this: { width=50% height=50%} right after the 
(path), the image is distorted. Am I doing that wrong?

Percentage values are relative to the page width and height. Try to set
`width=50%` and leave height unset; scaling should happen automatically.

That centers it and defines the width to 50%, but it's still the same 
height so really distorted. Any other ideas?

Also I don't think that centers the image.
