I wasted so many time because of the lack of guidance on this option, so I 
think it might help some others not familiar with TeX. 
But I don't know how to contribute on the website so just leaving it here. 
Please pass it to somebody who can.

This may be a good fit for the wiki: https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/wiki

There's already an already for lualatex, maybe adding one for pdflatex 
and/or XeLaTeX?
