Abstracts in LaTeX

Abstracts in LaTeX

Does pandoc just drop abstracts out of LaTeX files? Apologies if this is 
covered in the documentation somewhere, but I'm unable to find it. Or, if 
there is some setting I need to change in order to include abstracts in the 
output, I'm unable to find that as well.

For example, this TeX file compiles just fine, but the pandoc output I'm 
getting in HTML is just the title and author, no abstract.

You'd need to add the $abstract$ variable to your HTML
template.  We don't include that by default on HTML (perhaps
we should, but there is no one standard way of including
an abstract in HTML).

Oddly, I'm able to get it to work in HTML5 but not HTML4 (which I assume 
pandoc defaults to, since it doesn't work if I don't specify a "to").
