Would adding a variable be too much hassle? I could always go back to using my own template but I prefer, for simplicity's sake, to use the default.
Do you know that you can keep your own default at `~/.pandoc/templates/default.<format> `? My default.latex has diverged quite a bit from the official one, but pandoc will use it automatically whenever I produce PDF or standalone LaTeX.
