Pandoc is a command line client, it doesn't run in anything persay other than your shell environment (Bash or ZSH on *nix systems most of the time, and windows terminal on Windows most of the time). As a result it can be part of a larger system, and is incorporated into other software that may call it via the command line for you, but otherwise would have to be run from the command line.
