Insert a space between footnote ref and footnote text in docx output

Hi,

I have been using a simple reference.docx to style docx output to meet my 
university's specified font and heading style.  

All works perfectly except for one small problem that occurs with or 
without using --reference-docx, there is no space between the footnote ref 
and the footnote text.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I discovered the issue was due to MS word defaulting to a space instead of
a tab between the footnote identifier and the footnote text. I could not
find a way to chaneg the template to do this, however in the final docx it
is quite simple to globally replace the space with a tab of the desired
spacing.
