Yes, yaml escaping rules are fun!
By the way, I have a PR to switch from HsYAML to yaml for
YAML parsing, and with the version of pandoc that uses the yaml
library, this input actually raises an error instead of producing
a table:
YAML parse exception at line 1, column 13,
while parsing a quoted scalar:
found unknown escape character
That's better, I think1
