This worked with Markdown to PDF on VSC:

@Gruzelier2014EEGNFCreativity1 [@Gruzelier2014EEGNFCreativity2;
@Gruzelier2014EEGNFCreativity3] 

And the trick with the '-' symbol will come handy later as well!
