Subject: Does anyone know how to create a nicely formatted APA document?

I have searched, researched, and spent hours trying to find a perfect
pandoc system to output my markdown files into a perfectly formatted APA
document, but nothing works. I am able to reproduce using yaml an output
that is close using:
pandoc --filter pandoc-citeproc yaml.yaml md.md -o paper.pdf
But it's not perfect. I want properly formatted page numbers, and I want my
references section to be indented to APA standards (hanging), I want my
headings to appear properly up to level 5. But my only work around has been
to put in a word document and then format it manually.
I've googled: markdown thesis, markdown latex apa thesis, and so much more.
I've tried painstakenly to find a solution but I just can't seem to figure
it out. I'm not a computer science major so I have very limited
understanding. I just know that I want to use markdown and sublime to write
my thesis.
I have tried papaja using R studio. I dislike it very much. It always
produces some kind of error. Even if you just remove the second author.
It's so frustrating.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
I would greatly appreciate your time.
