Keeping or converting table formats and defaults

I mostly use grid tables because my text editor requires vertical/column indicators to work [1]. 

One such grid table got overly wide, and I wanted to use pandoc to reformat it according to a new wrap and learned that Pandoc now outputs simple tables [2], which won't work with my text editor, and I cannot specify a preferred table format for the output.

From the thread, John suggests you *can* subtract everything else. I can confirm this works:

```
pandoc -t markdown-simple_tables-pipe_tables-multiline_tables test-tables.md
```

However, the last 3 lines in this default file doesn't work (e.g., "Unknown option 'multiline_tables'"). Should it?

```
atx-headers: true
standalone: true
simple_tables: false
pipe_tables: false
multiline_tables : false
```

Also, has there been any discussion of having pandoc, generally, preserve formatting options (beyond wrap), or is there a way for pandoc to parse a markdown file and output the formatting conventions I used (and become the basis of a default file)?

Extensions are not options.  You can specify them in the input or
output format:

to: markdown-simple_tables-pipe_tables-multiline_tables
