Subject: glomming and variable woerdness
Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1992 17:35:26 -0400	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <9206032135.AA26086@stolaf.edu> (raw)

When rc scans the line

        echo $a*

the star is part of the variable name, so 'a*' is looked up and
printed out, for example

        ; 'a*' = fu
        ; echo $a*
        ; fu

However, when rc scans the line

	echo $a ^ *

it finds (well, sometimes) a to be the empty string, concatinates that
with * and then globs that string. This string is just '*' so printing
out all the files in the directory is what rc should do.
