i'm not entirely sure what rob's patch does, but i'd guess that it just pulls
to the front the window currently under the mouse. ugh. i can almost hear
the monitor going "ping!" every time that happens.
my own samterm hack keeps the click-to-type, but doesn't pull the window
forward when you click on it - it just gives it the focus. A second click
pulls it forward. I find this essential if i'm editing text from one window,
but i'm basing it on the contents of another window.
might consider incorporating rob's patch :-) [duck].
