It's called sysinit, and you can find the reference release (it's not quite ready for an official release yet) at . (I'm still waiting for Freshmeat approval.) I created sysinit to handle: - - serial system initialization and system shutdown (a la SysV) - - daemon management with the help of runit or daemontools (including some simple dependency handling) The first part is usable with or without runit/daemontools, and the second part is usable whether or not you use runit as process number one, but I intend for this to be usable and useful for sysadmins/distributions that use any of the above. The first part I created because I can't stand Debian's (and other distros') SysV initialization scripts. The second part is just what I've created while using daemontools and now runit. sysinit aims to integrate the two parts of system initialization and provide clean, robust interfaces to them both. The README is the first place to start for the details. Gerrit, would it be all right if we discussed people's thoughts on sysinit on this list for a bit? I'm hoping to get a list up and running somewhere soon (although sysinit.org's taken), but I figured this would be an appropriate spot to talk about what people like/dislike/want/don't want from a package like this. Thanks.
