I'm 64, I been running Ubuntu Mate for ~8 years or so, and even though it's systemd, and yeah, systemd IS an abomination, I don't care enough to go looking for something else. I still have $DAYJOB, kids living at home, Free Software to maintain, books to write, etc., etc., etc. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemdForUpstartUsers#Permanent_switch_back_to_upstart looks like it might do the trick, but it also looks like it's a little old, and I don't want to brick my production systems. I may try to spin up a VM and see if the instructions work before doing it for real.
