This is likely a different Y window sys than what Rodrigo found,
which is written in Alef and runs on 2nd ed plan9. Rodrigo may
want to trawl through 9fans mailing list/usenet group archives
or ask there.

I actually found a reference to it in the 9fans ml:
https://marc.info/?l=9fans&m=111558693515179&w=2
turns out it's been in /sys/src/alef/test/Y on 2nd ed plan 9 all along.
but i still wonder, who did this if not rob himself?
thanks Bakul for mentioning the ml. that reminded me of the local
archive i have, and i was able to sort through it quickly.

I looked at the source. I still have no memory of it existing, but
stylistically it's almost certainly code written by Phil Winterbottom.

It actually makes sense that there are two separate ones called 'Y'. The X
Window System was a descendant of the W window system, so if someone wanted
to do another one, 'Y' was the obvious namee to pick. All it needs now is two
separate people who decide they want to do a window system... voila!

judging from the screenshots and the code, that one has nothing to do with this.

I think Y was included in PicoBSD, the one 1.44MB 3.5" floppy version of
FreeBSD. I must have a couple of floppies with it on them somewhere.
Need to look for them now and give them a try. :-)
