Haven't tested with other builds. By clean bootstrap do you mean this:

Edit: tried. same result.

@knusbaum would you mind taking a look since you seem to have quite a lot of builds of this package behind your back ? 

From what I can understand it's a cross-build using bootstrap rather than binary-bootstrap hence I should need base-chroot ?
