A potential solution could be uninstalling `base-system` and using `base-voidstrap` for a lighter setup, however this still contains wireless-specific packages like `iw` and other packages you've mentioned (`btrfs-progs`, `xfsprogs`).
Creating your own template for `base-system` without the stuff you don't need may be the best solution.
