I came across this while updating ReText recently, the newer version had PyQt5 as install requirement in setup.py so it failed to launch citing "PyQt5 distribution was not found and is required".

There should be no harm in removing it :D, and I guess it was added in template before as the installed dist-info file was broken in a couple of releases.
