I've never particularly liked using symlinks as run scripts since it makes things somewhat more difficult to audit for usage. However, it will make the nebulous future plan of giving everything a logger easier since at that point you can very easily have the packaging system drop a log/run symlink in any servicedir that fails to declare a logger.
