I'll actually go ahead and close this (for now); I found out about [Google's own mkbootimg Python scripts](https://android.googlesource.com/platform/system/tools/mkbootimg/+/refs/tags/android-11.0.0_r40) which may be a better choice to package in the long run.

After I have time again and can consider things I'll get back to this :)
