You could also go the way of the [.deb package](https://github.com/MultiMC/MultiMC5/blob/develop/launcher/package/ubuntu/multimc/opt/multimc/run.sh), which just downloads the latest multimc binary from [multimc.org](https://multimc.org/#Download). Peterix is fine with this, as stated in https://github.com/MultiMC/MultiMC5/issues/4102#issuecomment-920345089
