I checked briefly the cross-compile and upstream's `configure.py` script seems broken beyond reasonable repair (fails to detect any compiler settings or architecture params, and its configuration flags are a nightmare to pass even a simple CXXFLAGS).

Seems to me we should limit to x86_64* for now.
