#### Testing the changes
- I tested the changes in this PR: **briefly**

octave seems to work ok with this, even the testsuite passes.

However, due to a (minor) change in `cs_complex_t` octave ftbfs which is fixed by the patch in the second commit. Rebuild of octave is not necessary IMO.
