This loses the O_EXCL atomicity guarantee:

% x==(:)
% ls $x 
ls: cannot access '/tmp/zshioVJpt': No such file or directory

It does work as a precommand assignment, though:

% x==(:) eval 'ls $x' 
/tmp/zsh37OnHf
