Hi.
I've entered these two commands into my zshrc:
bindkey `tput kcuu1` history-beginning-search-backward >/dev/null 2>&1
bindkey `tput kcud1` history-beginning-search-forward >/dev/null 2>&1
Histor search however works only under TTY console or Eterm.
GnomeTerminal or Xterm ignore these settings. I can't figure out why
this happens. I would be grateful for any tips how to make history
search working under something other than Eterm and little explanation
for this strange behavior. Thank you in advance.
Greetings.

Hi.
Big thanks for answer :) . It works for XTerm (however Gnome-Terminal
catches F1 and displays Help instead of binding key). I've got all
information I needed now :) I was thinking about adding paragraph about
UP/DOWN history searching into Gentoo Zsh Guide (
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123322 - maybe some of you will
be interested in participating :) ) however configuration of zkb is bit
too complicated to fit into Gentoo Guides convention in my humble opinion.
Greetings and thank you once again.

unfortunately it requires guide.dtd that is apparently Gentoo-specific.
Otherwise have you looked at newuser mechanism in current zsh?
