Y01completion.ztst hangs with zsh 4.2.3 on Mac OS 10.3.7

Is anyone else seeing this?

% tar xjf zsh-4.2.3.tar.bz2
# Start with the (known good) version that shipped with OS 10.3 rather 
than one I've compiled:
% /bin/zsh-4.1.1 -f
% cd zsh-4.2.3
% ./configure --prefix=$HOME/zshtest --enable-function-subdirs

<blah blah blah>

% make && make check && make install

<blah blah blah>

./Y01completion.ztst: starting.

That's it.  At this point everything stops.  I can build zsh 4.2.2 just 
fine.  Any ideas?

This has been seen sporadically on the Mac, though no one quite seems to
know why.  It's got something to do with the use of STREAMS in the zsh/zpty
module.  Unless you use the zsh/zpty module in normal operation, you
shouldn't care.  It will need a Mac expert to fix.
