The point is to send a signal to the interpreter which order to interrupt usual parsing and try to interpret what was already buffered right now. Of course it can fails. But a program interpretation can fail even when "it is complete". On a side humoristic note, one might perfectly imagine an interpreter that try to infer realistic expectation, or more simply associate a valid program to any random input. ;)
