You can join the elements of the array with "|" as the separator, and
then match against it:

    [[ $string == (${~${(j:|:)patterns}}) ]]

You could also restructure your code to have a single pattern to begin with:

    pattern='(foo*|*bar)'
    [[ $string == $~pattern ]]
