Or the standard "unset -f builtin"

Or functions=()

(or exec zsh -f)

Or

builtin() {
   echo my builtin wrapper
   set -o localoptions -o posixbuiltins
   command builtin "$@"
}

(though that affects the behaviour of the builtin called by builtin.
