I've got one, too; it's "wischnow" because "puck" was taken ;-)

But in the long run?

I mostly mean the web pages, though, because they could certainly be
made nicer (although that wouldn't require moving them to sourceforge,
of course); didn't someone lately offer to...

Yes, I recently offered to help with the web pages though what I had in
mind was primarily ensuring that it remained up-to-date and leaving the
current lynx friendly layout mostly as it is - I wasn't going to tart it
up with lots or pretty graphics if that's what you mean by 'made nicer'.

Karsten created me an account but I can't get it to work. I can login to
it if I use a username of 'opk' (instead of the 'pbk' which was the
username Karsten quoted in his e-mail) but I can't do a 'co zsh' command
- I get:
Fatal error, aborting.
opk@u.genie.co.uk: no such user

Does anyone who understands cvs have any idea as to what the cause of
this is. My guess is that either:
1. my company 's firewall is getting in the way. Which ports does CVS
use?
2. my CVS installation is wrong. It was done direct from a debian .deb
package by a friend who has a Linux box on the company's main network.
The RS/6000s I generally use for work are on a secure network so I can't
try from them.
3. Karsten made a mistake while creating the account. Fairly possible
seeing as he muddled my initials around and may have been in a rush - he
said he was very busy.

Karsten: if you get a chance, can you check the account setup.

I'm going to get a modem soon so will have internet access at home again
so hopefully that will solve a few problems. I can't actually access
sourceforge from the company network due to the firewall though I do
have an account (opk).

When I was doing this I used these commands to access the CVS
archive..
cvs -d :pserver:kevins@sunsite.auc.dk:/pack/anoncvs login
cvs -d :pserver:kevins@sunsite.auc.dk:/pack/anoncvs checkout zsh

Now you should replace kevins@sunsite.auc.dk with opk@sunsite.auc.dk

This worked fine for me just now...

I made a quote error - your login is opk as requested - sorry!

Well - it was just a quote error.

Oliver> Karsten: if you get a chance, can you check the account setup.

Try:

cvs -d :pserver:opk@sunsite.auc.dk:/pack/anoncvs login
<enter your password>

cvs -d :pserver:opk@sunsite.auc.dk:/pack/anoncvs co zsh

It should work just fine. Do not use yuor email address as login name.

Right I'm now in business with the main web pages. Thanks Karsten - it
now works after that second fix.

I've added a new news item about the SourceForge move. Now that I look
at it again, I'm not sure that I worded it as well as I might have done
but never mind. Peter: is your e-mail address on the about page
out-of-date; zsh@sunsite.auc.dk is also forwarding to ifh - atleast
according to the list Karsten sent me when he first added me)? I think
we should add a page describing how to get at the CVS stuff. I was going
to base it on the thing Adam wrote around the end of last year(?)
updated for SourceForge but if anyone thinks they can do a good job of
it (until recently I knew nothing about cvs) then please do. I'm not
sure where the CVS would fit under the main headings.

The Contributions page could probably have a few additions. I'll trawl
through the mailing list archives when I get time for any suitable
scripts. Does anyone object to me adding scripts that they posted under
their name on the page?

When I commited the couple of changes to CVS, I was prompted for some
text. I gave it a one-line description of the change I made is this what
I was supposed to do?

Does anyone know if we can use the sourceforge web area as a mirror of
the main pages with them automatically updated using cron or whatever?

We could probably do with a few examples of ZLE widgets. Those in the
main archive are all fairly complicated and aren't the best place to
start someone off. I have a few simple widgets - for example:

copy-last-word() {
  setopt localoptions noksharrays

  local words
  words=( "${=LBUFFER}" )
  if [[ $LASTWIDGET = copy-last-word ]] && (( clwcount > -$#words ));
then
    (( clwcount-- ))
  else
    (( clwcount=-2 ))
  fi
  LBUFFER="${LBUFFER%$words[-1]}$words[clwcount]"
}
This is like copy-prev-word but doesn't take the current unfinished word
and cycles through the previous words.

Where should this sort of thing be - in the distribution, on the web
page or in /dev/null? Does anyone else have any widgets they would like
to share?

I also have a number of AIX and IRIX specific completions as well as
some which are specific to particular commercial applications (e.g.
Rational Apex). Where should this sort of thing go?

I think we ought to have some way of sharing such things but there
should probably be a limit as to what goes into the main zsh
distribution. Can we have separate CVS distributions on SourceForge.
Maybe we should have a separately maintained package for miscellanous
completions. Despite saying that I'm not very convinced myself that it
would be a good idea. I always hate it when I come to download a program
and find that I need 15 separate libraries and macro packages.

Don't be suprised if I seem to be a bit inactive on the web pages over
the coming few weeks but I over the longer term, I hope that won't be
the case - I'm away for the coming weekends and have a holiday in the US
coming up. My one account on a Linux box on the internet may disappear
soon (and with it the host I ran cvs from) though I will have access
from home soon. Am I likely to cause problems (messing up file
permissions etc) by running cvs from a win32 machine as a temporary
measure?

If anyone has any suggestions related to the web pages then please speak
up.

Oliver Kiddle

You might want to update the date stamp to the right of the `News'
link on the main page too.

There's no need to write this; just link to

  http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=4068

like I've done from my page (the accuracy of which, incidentally, I'm
maintaining reasonably regularly).

No objection from me; you could include my .zshrc if you want, which
is always at:

  http://www.new.ox.ac.uk/~adam/computing/zsh/files/.zshrc

You could also include a link to my zsh page

  http://www.new.ox.ac.uk/~adam/computing/zsh/

under `Useful links', although I'm beginning to sound like an
egocentric maniac, so never let it be said I forced you into it ;-)

Yes. It doesn't have to be one line, but brief is good.

Yes, we could. Mirroring via rsync would be best, if it's possible.

Personally I really like the `out-of-the-box-ness' of the new
completion system, and would like to see that continue as much as
possible. We already have a few platform-specific completions, and
adding more are hardly doing any harm.

Exactly.

I'm not too keen on the `Distribution' section. When I was first
looking for the downloads bit, my eye completely missed this. Could
we change it to `Downloads', with sub-headings as `Mirrors' and
`Mirror contents' respectively?

Agreed. And people who have platform-dependent completion functions
they want to add might want to start thinking about the final
directory layout... ;-)
