I can reproduce this, but not under gdb, and, curiously, not if I
first start another instance of zsh, ie:
%(1) zsh
%(2) cd /
%(2) cd ..
%(2) <tab> -> produces listing
%(2) exit
%(1) cd /
%(1) cd ..
%(1) <tab> -> hangs
