Do we have a definite list of mirrors? There are different lists in the
META-FAQ on the sourceforge pages, and in the text version in the "FTP"
site, different again from the zsh.org main page.
I noticed the funet.fi site still has 5.8 as the current version, so
that needs to be fixed or the mirror dropped.
Also we may want to drop the ftp urls, as the browser gods have
apparently declared them obsolete.
Another thing, the META-FAQ lists zsh.org in Australia, but the zsh.org
homepage says it's in the Netherlands.

While no-one has sufficient authority to issue such a binding
declaration, FTP and WWW browsers have never been an entirely happy
combination; for that reason, me'd have little objection to presenting
the list entries in the more classic form of:
some.host.dot:/some/dir/
(The trailing slash is optional.)

While I find it annoying when running across an ftp url that the browser
now tries to launch an external program, I have to admit, I can't
remember the last time I used an actual ftp client. I've either used
wget or firefox. The mirrors in all the lists have http/s support as
well as FTP support. Other than the ftp command, I can't think of any
software that does FTP that also doesn't do HTTP. But that's my experience.

Client-side issue :)

FTP is far from perfect, but at least it treats files as files, instead of
as more nebulous `documents' (like HTTP does). That's a big reason why it
hasn't disappeared yet.

lftp(1) demonstrates that from the reverse side, heh.
But as long as there are FTP mirrors (and me frankly doesn't see why
they would disappear altogether at this point), they should be listed.

When we migrated zsh.org a couple of years ago, we went through the list
and removed all the sites that had ceased to exist. Not a lot remains.
The META-FAQ likely didn't get updated.

It could be worth trying to contact them to make sure they are mirroring
the correct rsync address.

Yes, I doubt they get much use.

It's in the Netherlands now.

The distribution site isn't that big, and unless traffic is much higher
than I would think, I'd be willing to host an HTTPS mirror on my Linode
VPS in Dallas using a CNAME like dallas.zsh.org or maybe
us-tx-dallas.zsh.org. We'd have at least one mirror in the Western
Hemisphere.
